During the prosperous period of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, wealth was evident through the abundance of gold artifacts created during that time. Historical records indicate that commoners were permitted to wear rings with only red and green stones. However, most villagers preferred to wear plain rings without precious gems. Those who wore gem-studded rings were usually individuals of high status, as noted in La Loubère's records: "...Siamese women preferred to wear rings on their middle, ring, and pinky fingers of both hands, often wearing more than one ring or as many as possible. They wore earrings shaped like balls or pears, made of gold, silver, or gilded metal, and brass fingernail covers. Aristocratic children wore bracelets and anklets until the age of seven..." This preference for jewelry has remained, though styles have changed over time. Today, ancient jewelry is rarely seen, which adds to its value and significance.
